Jiufen and Jinguashi (collectively known as the "Shuijinjiu" area) boast stunning mountain and sea views with different scenery throughout the four seasons, making them popular choices for day trips or two-day trips from Taipei.

🚌 Transportation to Jiufen & Jinguashi

Public transportation is recommended for visiting Jiufen and Jinguashi, as parking is limited and mountain roads are narrow. Travel time from Taipei city center is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

Option 1: Direct Bus from Taipei City

For travelers who prefer no transfers, the following bus routes are most convenient.

Option 2: Train to Ruifang + Transfer

If you're concerned about traffic or want to combine with a Pingxi Line trip, taking the train is a good choice.

Train: Take TRA local or express train from Taipei Main Station to Ruifang Station (approximately 40 minutes).

Transfer: After exiting Ruifang Station, take one of the following buses up the mountain:

  • Keelung Bus 788: Ruifang Station ⇌ Jiufen ⇌ Jinguashi
  • Taiwan Tourist Shuttle 856 (Gold Fulong Line): Ruifang Station ⇌ Jiufen ⇌ Jinguashi (scenic route with more stops)
  • Keelung Bus 1062: Ruifang Station ⇌ Jiufen ⇌ Jinguashi (same route as direct from Taipei)

Option 3: Between Jiufen & Jinguashi

The two areas are close (approximately 10 minutes by bus). You can choose:

  • Bus: Routes 788, 856, 1062 all travel between Jiufen Old Street and Jinguashi (Gold Museum stop).
  • Walking: For those with stamina, walk along the trails or road to enjoy the scenery.

⚠️ Travel Tips

Weather & VisibilityJiufen and Jinguashi are often rainy and foggy, especially in winter. Bring rain gear and wear non-slip, comfortable shoes.
Weekend CrowdsJiufen Old Street is extremely crowded on weekends and holidays; buses may be delayed due to traffic. Consider visiting on weekdays or leaving early.
Motion SicknessMountain roads are winding; those prone to motion sickness should take medication beforehand.
